My laptop died on Xmas Day a local man who I got through word of mouth on local neighbourhood group.  Took it away but the motherboard  and hard drive gone.

As he owned a.shop but working from  home  I asked about a new laptop?   He said three problems  Covid  the shops are shut and Brexit.  At the moment laptops are like hen's teeth to get a good deal.  People working from home  and  children for using school.  I did an online search and Argos So many  of of stock and even Curries.  A friend said online HP and Lenovo  have them for delivery now.  I have one coming this week from HP my old one was from.them.

Sorry for.the long post but wanted to explain what is happening here.

Apple. Order online, delivery in a couple of days. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for and will probably still be using it in 10 years time.

I can vouch for Apple I got an iMac 10 years ago and it still works. My iPad mini 2 is 8 years old and was able to Zoom on it throughout lockdown.

Very few local indies selling laptops.

You'd be better buying the "right" laptop at the right price, then if it requires work out of warranty then find a local repair shop.

Put your requirements and budget on the Technical board and people will give you good advice as to what to buy and where from.
