Standard rate taxpayer - declare NEST contributions on SA return?

I'm self employed and not a higher rate taxpayer.  During the 2019-20 tax year I began contributing to a NEST pension.
Do those contributions go onto my return?  I understand that a higher rate taxpayer would declare them to get the 'missing' 20% relief, but do I need to do so as well?  Page 4 box 1 simply asks for Payments to registered pension schemes where basic rate tax relief will be claimed by your pension provider (called ‘relief at source’). Enter the payments and basic rate tax.  So if I'd contributed £1000, I would simply enter £1200 there?
Cheers, Jamie

Comments

  • No, if your contributed £1,000 you would enter £1,250 as the pension provider adds 25%.

But you do need to enter them even if in your case it does not impact the overall tax liability.
  • Oops - of course the uplift is 25%, not 20% !
Thanks for confirming that it does need to be entered, even if I expect it won't make any difference.
