Tax on a second job

I'm currently working 25hrs pw on minimum wage as a cleaner. I have had a lot of interest from people requesting domestic cleaning at their homes so I am thinking of doing some self employed work.
Does anybody have any information on where to start, how much tax I will roughly pay etc?

Assuming you are earning enough in your main job to be paying at least some tax (??) then everything you earn in addition will be taxable at the standard rate.

However, as you will be partly self employed you can offset some expenses against your income so you will only pay tax on the profit you make. For example you may have some travelling costs and perhaps have to buy your own cleaning equipment and materials? A portion of your phone would be a legitimate business expense. Maybe some protective clothing? You might have some sweatshirts printed with "Chantelle Cleaning Services" in which case they would be tax deductible and so on.

Plus, as a self employed person, you can earn up to £1000 per year without needing to register. Work out how soon you'd hit that, and don't undercharge - self employed hours are worth more than minimum wage!
