Brr,its cold! Mr Dusty is unhappy that I ration putting the radiators on to take the chill off,and turning them off again after only 10 minutes!

Morning all, late up - got home 01:30. Rock'n'roll! Gig went OK, they want us back so couldn't have been awful! "Crikey, you've gone mad!" sais our (their!) singer as I got a second pint of Heineken 0.0%! Only minor grumble - they pay via agency so we get paid in 3 weeks. Not a problem though.

Just back from holiday which I am glad to say I navigated without needing to drink (I’m not a good flyer). Was very hot and a few evenings I was tempted to have a nice cold glass of beer with the evening meal, but I held off. In all honesty I did have the feeling of, why the need to deprive yourself of one or two drinks while you are away on holiday, what would be the harm, you’re only going to come here once, if you can’t unwind here then when will you ever be able to, etc etc.

But I think I’m still trying to prove a point to myself.

Sorry to waffle, I’m just making sense of what I mean.

This was a significant birthday for my other half so as a treat we stayed in a really nice hotel. Definitely not the sort of place full of people there to be boozing and partying. I saw plenty of couples having just one or two drinks with their dinner, they seemed very happy. At dinner on the last night there was a guy on the next table on his own, he had one glass of beer with his meal and that was it. I watched him and thought, now why can’t it always be like that. A civilised meal with one drink, admire the sun setting in glory over the sea, then away. 

In times gone by, and not so long ago either, I’d have had seven or eight beers with dinner, then made my way to the hotel bar and cleaned up the top shelf, then gone back to room and drank whatever was to still to be found in there. 

I would really like to be that person who can enjoy one civilised drink with dinner and not feel that it has to take any sort of other direction from there.

Not an alcohol free day today, had my parents round for practice Christmas day. It was ok just even less on telly than usual.
