And there in hangs a tale. I paid off the mortgage rather putting money into my pension. Am not married. Relationship broke down as ex had an affair. Hung in there and tried to work things out, finally after 3 years of being treated badly I left. Somewhere in that whole sorry tale I started drinking after 15 years of not drinking at all. I now realise this is a stomach bug not a hangover but it still is acting as a wake up call as I've lost too many days to feeling sick. Ex refuses to settle. My life is a mess but it will be less of a mess if I stop drinking so here I am showing up and saying I'm not sure I can stop but perhaps I need to look at my diary and plan when I can and will drink rather than randomly hitting the bottle.Barny1979 said:
Well you've stuck to paying your mortgage off, so you an do this tooWatty1 said:I think I need to join in here. I seem to have lost the weekend in a fuzz of feeling awful and it is time to admit my drinking is somewhat out of control.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
Thanks for your lovely welcomes. So how does your counting run from? Are you setting month targets? I think at this point I'll just declare today alcohol free because I know I can manage that. I do love how positive you all are.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Welcome @Watty1.😊 Briefly, we start counting from the start of each month, setting a target and then posting AF days as we go. It sounds like you'd be better off at the moment just going for Target Free. If you did decide on a number to aim for then you can always change your mind.Watty1 said:Thanks for your lovely welcomes. Personally my aim is to not drink during the week at home, so potentially 4 days a week unless I have a social occasion in the week. I prefer that to making every day a potential drinking day and then having to decide. Some people choose not to have any booze at home so they can't be tempted. I'm sure you'll decide on your own 'ground rules'. Good Luck!
5/10 AFDs please @cathybird5 -
Watty, welcome :-). Think about how much you could put into your pension by cutting down/cutting out the booze.
I give myself a target of 25 days alcohol free per month. I reckon I'm saving at least £14/week or £56/month.What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?4 -
