Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 17

@Honey_Bear Thank you for your post, seven years is absolutely amazing well done and congratulations.
Also a big thank you for your own insight into AA culture. Without really getting into it I have experienced meetings the equivalent of AA, still am experiencing it on occasionally and I'm not going to say it hasn't been good for me to consider just how bad things can get when addiction is a problem and I have received support but ikwyacf. Tbh sticking with the CA 'rules' I shouldn't touch a drink full stop even though I've never had a problem with alcohol and can enjoy a drink (without going overboard on onto the next level) in the right setting without temptation. I can't make peace with that tbh, so thank you for your insight into this. It's really helped to make me realise I'm not alone in being ambivalent to 12 step programmes.5 -
Thanks for that Alt80. It's a subject I steered clear of on this forum thread for years because I know it can be a tricky area for some people and I genuinely don't want to offend anyone, but I needed to get it out there. Some years ago I came across the idea of Single Cause Fanatics - those people who only have one topic of conversation who require you to see things the way they do. Any resistence to their ideas just brings another blast of their rhetoric. I've met too many AA people like that to think it's just a co-incidence and I don't believe they have any idea of the harm they do to people who are already a little anxious about their booze consumption and looking for a safe place to start dealing with it.The loveliest thing about this forum thread was always it's tolerance. It's rare in our society at the moment in the public domain and I wanted to mark it and celebrate it.Good luck with your personal journey with booze.Better is good enough.4

Thank you for your words Honeybear, I'm really pleased to hear how well you are doing. It's amazing to think that you have been booze-free for 7 years. That's a really fantastic achievement - thanks for looking in and giving us an update.5
