Hi AllI've been thinking of everyone on here over the past few weeks and reading along occasionally so I thought I'd check in and say Congratulations to everyone who's doing well, and commiserations to everyone who isn't doing quite as well as they'd like to be doing.I found myself wondering how long it is since I'd stopped drinking after having a conversation with a friend who I thought might have a problem around the time I gave up, and noticed at a garden get together last week that she was slurring her words, so therefore already drunk, when we arrived at about 7.30. She had always said she only had one glass while she was preparing dinner, but clearly Lockdown has had a seriously deliterious effect on her consumption, and in that I'm pretty sure she's not alone. Her partner, whose drinking also concerned me, appears to have it under control now, which doesn't surprise me - he was always looking for a cause, and I think she's now it. By the end of the evening she had repeated herself so many times I could hardly think of anything new to say. It's so frustrating and sad but there's genuinely nothing I can do about it except just be there if she realises she's got a problem and wants to do something about it.What I did find myself realising is that there isn't an amount of money anyone I know could afford that would make me want to have a drink, or start drinking again. It's such a freedom not to have to factor in the after effects of a night out, or in my case most of the nights in, and although I still love the smell of red wine and a G&T, I can honestly say I'm never even tempted any more, and haven't had any cravings for literally years. I can't remember when they stopped but I don't think it was for at least a couple of years, although they became quite rare. So, I went back to check, thinking it was five, possibly six years. It will be seven on 26 July! How time flies when you're enjoying yourself. I also wanted to say that I know I couldn't have done it without the support I received on here.I hope everyone's well and happy. I'll drop by again when I've got something to say, if I may.Better is good enough.7

Great to hear from you HB. 😊
Many congratulations on your 7 year anniversary coming up! Where has the time gone? 🤣
I'm proud of the fact that we've kept going on the thread through the lockdowns and not succumbed to daily drinking as it seems your friend has. ☹️ I wouldn't judge as it's not been easy for anyone but I'm delighted that I've managed to stick with my weekend drinking (no chance of impromptu socialising anyway 🤣) and also kept my weight the same. You know me. I've always been motivated by avoiding empty calories. 😉
Do drop by next month. 😁5 -
hi Honey Bear, how lovely to hear from you, please drop by any time
I've got friends I also worry about who I am certain are drinking too much, it's a hard one.
