  • great that you have progress, pain in the ar** that it will be to set up.
Do use your Macrium Reflect to create new rescue/boot media and do a full backup to a known good drive once you are running happily.....and install a good virus checker/firewall!
I was just going through the laptop trying to get it back to normal and there's things on there that i really don't remember. It also isn't letting me connect to any internet pages. Google opens up a "Lenovo L530 drivers" search but i can't go to any links it seems.

Currently trying the backup i made with Acronis and restoring to that. I tried this way earlier in the thread but that was before i'd managed to get the drive up and running. Hopefully it works this time.

Ok this is strange and i'm set for giving up on this now, putting the bad drive in and just waiting until it dies.

I get the laptop up and running, i use the Acronis recovery and get it back somewhere near my setup.

It doesn't detect the wireless. I install the driver - no joy. I connect it to the router with the intentions of going to the Lenovo site and downloading drivers - and here's the funny bit, i open Chrome when connected via ethernet, Chrome opens, Google loads. I search "Lenovo L530 drivers" and i get error messages, the page wont load. I try FireFox, i try IE, same thing.

I try again this time i search something else. BBC News. It loads the page. I click all through the BBC website. I search for Lenovo again and it brings Lenovo up. I click the link and i get the error message again.

I load Lenovo website on my PC - no problem.

    I give up.

EDIT: Rather than bump - i went at it one last time this morning. It was strange, a web browser would open some pages but not others. It made no sense. Then just as i was set to give up totally there was a pop up to turn on wireless capability. Not sure why it wasn't turned on anyway. Did this, updated the web browser and everything after that seemed fine. Currently installing a ton of updates.

EDIT x2: Spoke too soon. Installed all the relevant updates from Windows update, laptop restarted and then goes in to a blue screen loop complaining about win32k.sys. It gets as far as the Windows screen where the next step would be for you to enter your password but right before it does that it just throws up a blue screen and then resets.

I've used a Windows 7 recovery disc to repair which supposedly found errors and repaired but it still loops.

    Wonderful.

Have you tried safe mode to see if it boots ok. Oh and perhaps try using a system restore point (not an acronis restore)

  • All the safe modes didn't work. It just looped.

In the end I totally had enough of it. I've got it sorted now. The way i've done it i imagine can't really be said on an open forum, even though I bought a machine that's supposed to have Windows 7 Pro on it and i have a key that should've given me that. I tried all ways to avoid this but in the end it seemed the only option.
