Beating Lifestyle Inflation and Staying Mortgage Free!

Back to work for me last week up here in Scotland, so haven't updated as just so busy.In summary I have
-gone through budget with DH to get an overall household cost per month.
- DHs personal costs were eye watering (to me).
- I decided that I was not going to fund his lifestyle anymore,
- we split only household costs and kids costs down the middle. If he wants to keep working forever that's his decision. With my health I'm all in for retirement asap.Result is that I only need to find another £300 per month extra for the next 5 years and I can retire. Give up my car and it will be even sooner!
in DHs defence, household costs were split evenly and we designed it that way. But kids costs have kind of crept up and up- gym memberships, clothes etc it all adds up. I just added them to my account and for the last 10-12 years they have been paid by me and they are expensive! So I'm doing 2 things at the moment, building up my walking fitness for a walking holiday with friends in October, and building up my ability to cycle commute by November when my car goes back - longest daily cycling will be about 20 miles. Thanks so much for reading and replying it means a lot to have encouragementVery Happy Earthgirl 🙌Save £20,000 in 2025. Ooh, £300 for 5 years sounds very do-able 👍! I can see why you're chuffed with that. Would you want to go sooner if you can do more than £300, or does 5 years feel about right?Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Me too!5 years = 60 months. Start the countdown!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

60 months does not sound to long at all.
I started an account and put saved or free money in it as a bid towards retirement. It will now fund one month in retirement!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1
