Query about EOM's

Hi all,
I hope everyone is well and keeping safe. Hope you all enjoyed Christmas and looking forward to what the new year will bring also.
Now, it's been quite some time since i have entered comps on MSE ( i used to be quite the seasoned comper! lol ), mainly if im honest because of the new lay out.
I have some queries, that i hoping someone may be able to answer for me......here goes......

1) Where have all the EOM's gone? There used to be pages and pages and pages. Is it because not as many companies host giveaways, or not as many posters on here due to the new lay out? All i could see for EOM December was approx 10 pages? 

2) When i'm  the comps by end date, i head to the last page and work my way towards page one. But i'am finding ( for example ) that i can enter comps on say page 50, tick all that i have entered, then when i go onto page 49,im seeing the same comps that i have ticked, so i click on page 48, again same comps, page 47, this can sometimes go on for about 6-10 pages? Why is that?

Wow, no-one's responded when once-upon-a-time you'd have had several replies by now
I was shocked by how few EOMs there were, particularly as EO year too. Combination of less prizes round due to cutbacks or changed ways of working, plus the massive impact less posters has had, I guess.
All the changes, and the subsequent ignoring of pleas for a timescale of changes drove many away. Also, a poorly / barely functioning search facility puts many off. It's frustrating to search diligently. sidestepping all the ridiculous search quirks. only to find you've duped. 
As for your 2nd question, I've noticed a considerable overlap of comp pages. Not sure what that's about, but you are not alone..

There are, at present, 107 current comps with an end date of 31/01.
Using the Sort facility, these are all included on 9 pages with (mostly) 20 results a page. This is somewhat confused by the mysterious overlap/duplications. An End Date search for 31/01 gives 107 results (I counted them individually) over 11 pages with 10 results per page and, strangely, includes one that is showing as 05/01 but which has very recently been edited from 31/01.

An End Date search on the duck site for 31 Jan produced 79 results.

Searching Game over for End Date 31/12 showed about 121 comps but search would undoubtedly miss a number of comps with poorly formatted End Dates which search cannot find.
A similar search on the duck site for 31 Dec gave 244 results for 2020.

Gosh, that's some discrepancy. Do you suppose they get posted later / nearer the end date over there?
It seems weird that last month there were twice as many, yet the numbers are reversed  (I know that's not mathematically correct, but you get my drift !) this month

It's probably a lot too early in the month to draw any conclusions about January figures. It could be that MSE regular monthly comps are posted earlier than over there.

I just re-searched the MSE figures for End Date 31/12 and have now found 224. I don't know why I only made it 121 the first time but it may have been something to do with the Advent comps. So now there aren't many less than the ducks site and the omissions due to bad formatting would make it even closer.

Hi ronansmum,

This is a glitch with the new forum that we have reported to the forum team and are awaiting their feedback on. They checked with us a couple of weeks ago to see if it was still happening as they thought it might have been resolved by some other changes to the forum, but it hasn't so it's on their list of fixes that are needed.

From your comment I take it that you were using the Sort facility to order the board but was this the main Competitions Time board or the Advent sub-board? Each of these boards would have had competitions ending 31/12 and you would be getting only those on the board you were on. Using the Sort facility, you would be getting 20 results per page, so 9 pages would be approx. 180 competitions reduced by the overlap problem. (This problem is a known glitch that has been reported and is being worked on by MSE). The overlap problem in Sort does make it almost impossible to get any accurate count of number of comps.

My result of 121, subsequently amended to 224 in my later post, was the result of using Search on the Game Over sub-board after all those ending 31/12 had been removed from the "current" boards and by using a "31/12" search would have included all comps removed from both the Competitions Time and Advent boards. This produced some 22 pages of results at 10 results per page before it started producing 31/12's from 2019.

So many competitions run for Advents and Christmas that end of the month in December and then January are usually quieter anyway.

I use several websites to comp now but I bookmark all comps from this forum as they are posted and not including a couple I have intentionally skipped and any mag dailies I currently have 140 bookmarked that are ending on the 31/01
