Options
A friend is turning 40 in 3 weeks and I thought it would be nice given the current circumstances to get 40 gifts.  Mainly small....so far I have
1. Main Present
2. Spam (inside joke)
3. Toilet paper
4. Pen
5. Jam
6. Trinket box
7. Bottle of wine
8. Milka Bar
Then I realised I'm pants with gifts.....any ideas?

What about focussing gifts on the year she was born or her childhood eg a few items that would have been popular in the 1980s?

  • My advice is to ask a woman. Your wife/partner perhaps?

I had a similar predicament a couple of years back, buying for a long time lady friend that had hit 50. My wife, similar age, had loads of brilliant suggestions that appeared to be well appreciated.

As for suggestions, 'naughty at forty'.  I went with 'thrifty at fifty'. Happy to help, good luck!
  • Some ideas -
    1. Bubble bath
    2. Hand cream
    3. Face cream
    4. Nail varnish
    5. Face masks
    6. Hat/scarf/gloves
    7. Candle
    8. Nice picture frame with a picture of the two of you in
    9. Mug
    10. Earrings
    11. Colouring book
    12. Voucher (either for a shop/massage treatment etc or a homemade one - IOU a night of babysitting etc)
    13. House plant
    14. Cookery book
    15. Purse
    16. Book by their favourite author
    17. Socks
    18. Pyjamas
    19. Make up/wash bag (perhaps filled with little bits to boost the present count - lipbalm, compact mirror, hair brush etc?)
    20. Nice notepad and/or pen
    21. Blanket
  • Pinterest has a load of different ideas, some even have little notes attached that are quite fun. For example to go with the bottle of wine you could write a little note saying there's nothing to whine about, it's your birthday and to go with it you could get a wine glass and write a little note saying when all else fails, drink up.
I'd also get some classic little birthday gifts like a badge, a sash, some balloons, birthday cake themed food etc.
