Just noticed on Barclaycard Eligibility Checker that the opening criteria; do you currently hold a card, has been removed.

Seems they've opened up additional accounts (applications) again.

If this matters to you, you need to seek debt advice.

Do not see the point of more than 1 card with one provider. You need to spread any load around.
As you will never be able to get a balance transfer offer within the same group.

In this case I hold a BC Platinum which I have no use for now. So opened a Reward one.

There's many reasons why one may wish to open multiple cards with the same provider.

I've 3 with Santander! Go figure....

You could have called them and asked them to switch your Platinum one  to the rewards one, it’s what I did back in May.

Why? I may use the platinum one for BT offers in the future.

I'm responsible. I don't owe a penny to anyone - oh wait, I spent a couple grand in December on Amex so that's it. It'll be paid next week by DD. It's all good.

There's lots of reasons for more than 1 card with the same provider. I've got 2 Barclaycards, one has 0.5% cashback, the other gives commission free foreign use. So I use one in the UK and the other abroad. I've also got 2 Halifax Claritys, to separate cash and spending abroad, although they're now just backups to the Barclaycard.

I’ve just seen the £20 cashback on the MSE email for transferring a balance to a Barclaycard, and “Do you have a Barclaycard” is on the eligibility checker:

Although I don’t have a Barclaycard, I only closed it this week, so think I need to wait six months.....

I think that’s only for the £20 cashback on the balance transfer card.

Do not see the point of more than 1 card with one provider.
    I do.
For example, I've got Barclaycard that I opened back in 2019.  Its 0% purchase period ends in January, so I don't really need it anymore, but I will keep it anyway since it contributes to my credit HISTORY which I don't want to lose. I also have a history with the company, they already know me, I've recently increased my limit to 6k, so it's likely I would get a decent limit on the other card too. Plus, every active CC means another monthly direct debit, which I useful thing for me. I would like to open a second Barclaycard for the bonus if it was possible and keep the old one for the history and direct debit. Since it's one provider, it's also convenient to see both accounts at the same time in just one app wihout the need to link those accounts to a third party app .

I also have a card with Halifax and I would apply for another card with them just because I know from previous experience that Halifax will not hard-search me for new accounts or cards if I'm already their customer. And if I want, I can shift a portion of the credit limit from the older card to the new one and get one pretty high limit.

There definitely are reasons why some poeple may want more than one card from the same provider. Of course it can have some downsides too. If Barclays or Halifax decide for whatever reason that they don't want me as their customer anymore, I would've suddenly lost two cards instead of just one, but I think this is very unlikely to happen. And I have other cards with other providers as a backup anyway.
