Nice!I agree about down, there are plenty of reports about cruel plucking techniques in China.
I’ve actually got a wool duvet, which I know wouldn’t suit vegans but I have to say it is wonderful - the temperature seems to regulate itself automatically somehow and I like the fact it is made in the UK from British fleecesIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8 -
My favorite piece of clothing that I wear rarely, as it isn't generally cold enough here, is a full-length gray cloak made from wool US military blankets and lined with fleece (the fake stuff, not a real fleece!). I'd found a bunch of the wool military blankets for cheap back in college, and traded several extras for the making up of the cloak. As the gent who made it knew I couldn't handle the rough wool, he brought the fleece around in about a 3-inch strip on the front so I can still grab it and hold it closed without my hands itching like the dickens. I have walked around in that thing in the pouring rain for 2 days and stayed dry (I had waterproof boots at that point as well). It's covered my bed out camping when my sleeping bag just wasn't doing the trick. When I had a car big enough, it lived in the car during the winter in case I got stranded somewhere. It now lives under our bed in the camper, ready to be impressed into service whenever we are out. Sadly, it's not very practical for "real" life, as it's difficult to drive in.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9

Well, I've been playing with Dylon and tie-dyeing an old duvet cover. This is working towards another cot quilt, and yes, this time it's for family... DS2 and his lovely wife are expecting in July. We've known for a couple of weeks (hence DD2's knitting-fest) but couldn't say anything until she'd told her work. So I'm going to be a Gran, which is rather exciting! There may even be some spinning going on, and certainly some crochet; I did little hand-spun kimono-tops with matching hats (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/thriftwizard/kimono-wrap-revisited & https://www.ravelry.com/projects/thriftwizard/kimono-wrap-revisited-2) for my great nephew & niece & will have to do at least that for DS2's little one!Angie - GC Aug25: £478.51/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)11

My DD has ordered sushi for tonight. Somehow don't think they had that in 1940! I'll have to treat it as fish and chips from the chippy.
She has raided my stash of fabric. Now I freely admit it is a stash of SABLE proportions. But she never folds stuff up properly afterwards - let alone put it back. The chaos has to be seen to be believed. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8 -
@maryb - tell her the fabric is free but you're charging her £1/minute for how long it takes you to get everything how it was!
Maybe oyu could think of the sushi as like one of those "foreign" and unfamiliar fish things like snoek...!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Long time lurker here but this is my first post. I’ve been reading all the lovely wedding dress stories. I hired my wedding dress. I was able to have an expensive dress at a fraction of the cost and it wasn’t left collecting dust afterwards with me wishing I could still fit into it. I bought the veil and headdress, which I still have but the dress was returned a few days later. This was in 1982 when meringues were the in thing ( a year after Lady Di got married) 🙂

Hiring had always seemed the sensible option to me. Many years ago, 1980s to be more precise, I had to attend some posh dinners and “do” s from time to time. Hiring an evening dress made much more sense than buying one that I would only use occasionally and it meant I could have something different every time.
@Laura_Elsewhere, I bought some fat quarters from one of the discount supermarkets “middle aisle” bargains to make face coverings with. I was very disappointed with the quality when they were washed first, as you say white lines through most of the pieces and very frayed edges.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.5 -
Congratulations @thriftwizard! I just found out a few minutes ago that my cousin is going to be a grandad in the summer too. Must be something in the water around here!2025 Fashion on the ration
