@thriftwizard your cat is gorgeous. My little cat loves to help when I am at the computer or crafting. I managed to distract her for a while today by laying out some spare fabric and pattern paper on the sunny end of my table, while I got on with some work in the cold. I am hoping that one day she will learn to cut out and sew, but she has failed with the tea-making so far.January 2021 Frugal Living limit £339.50, target £300

thriftwizard said:I've got a couple of sewing projects in hand for this weekend; I made DD2 some PJ bottoms last week from the pattern I used for OH's PJs, suitably re-sized down, but that pattern's matching top calls for acres of fabric, which I don't have (2m+, there's just 1.5m left) so another, simpler pattern has been invested in & will be picked up from our local W8rose later. There's a cot quilt top to be "sandwiched" & quilted for a young friend's baby, due at the end of the month. Plus I'm going to make myself a sensible winter skirt from some of the browny-green corduroy, with plenty of striding-room & nice deep pockets! (Never got round to listing it online... but will sooner or later, along with acres of vintage Laura Ashley stuff)
So, my leg- & wrist-warmers will be getting some more exercise, as it's mostly straight-stitch stuff, best done in the (slightly-warmer, but still freezing) conservatory. After that - maybe the knickers, at long last?! BUT I can't find that marvellous post pointing me at all those wonderful free patterns; please might someone with superior mastery of the search function point me in the right direction again?

@thriftwizard, I keep meaning to make a decision on that needlecord! I shall organise myself this week and let you know, if that's ok?
Which knicker patterns was it?
I've finally sat down and done the arithmetic for the (vast number of) extra inches to add to this diagram (I'm quite a few inches bigger than 36" on the hips!!), and have checked my fabric boxes and found some soft-hand viscose in cream which will be good for a preliminary trial-run. I am resigned to them being large enough to power a small sailing-boat, but at least if I make them in a fine viscose then they won't also be bulky!

Thanks for the link to the free knickers pattern, @Laura_Elsewhere. I found this post in the 2019 thread, but it didn't have a link. Goodluck @thriftwizard.

I don’t know if this is the one, but I bookmarked this https://sewguide.com/free-underwear-tutorials/ some time ago. (Sigh) I still haven’t got round to making my own knickers, it’s on my list of projects that I’d like to tackleLife is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. I've got this bookmarked but like @PollyWollyDoodle haven't got round to trying yet!

There's actually lots of different free patterns available to download but of course with only an A4 printer it can turn into lots of pages to trim and sellotape together!

See, I'm stuffed for all those, as my 1902 Singer only does straight stitch! I have managed to use stretch-velvet to make a few pairs, sewing hand-zigzag, but mostly I think it makes sense for me to make vintage pre-lycra styes - and they suit me best anyway
I like longer legs on my knicks so they meet my long wool stockings and keep me cosy under my petticoats and skirts
New grey-wool skirt is cut, and hanging up o stretch the fabric out on the bias (straight grain down the middle of each of the four panels); I've found my grey soft-hand viscose lining to cut the lining tomorrow. I've dismantled my crimson culottes which took two whole years to reach the stage of the fly being badly-sewn, thus were postponed... now I can press the pieces and re-sew them properly. I'm on a bit of a roll here (hurrah for extremely intelligent Counselling Woman...)2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Hello everyone - sorry for the late start to 2021. I would like to count the coupons this year so will start with 66. Maybe if I am feeling brave I will try and sew something simple with the sewing machine to wear. I have found the instructions for my Mum's Singer now so hopefully I will be able to work out how to use it. It's the Singer 237, suspect it is from the late 60s as I think it was my Mum's first significant purchase for herself when she had saved up enough when she started teaching. It hasn't been used since she bought herself a new one about 10 years ago.
