Curry's Coffee Machine

I bought a nespresso vertuo coffee machine online on 29th November. (Christmas present fir hubby)There was an offer of a discounted chrome pod holder, if purchased at the same time, so I did. My son bought the coffee pods that fitted the chrome holder, but when my husband opened his present, we realised the vertuo machine takes different sized pods to those that fit the holder.
Curry's refused to except the return if the machine, because it's over the 21 days. But surely the offer was misleading, I want a machine that takes the coffee pods we have now purchased.

I think it is your job to check which machine you are buying. Given you didn't do so you are dependent on their good will. Could you sell the machine to cut your losses and buy a non Vertuo one? Could you give/sell the capsules to someone who already has a mchine?0

I think it would depend upon the terms of the offer. If it said or implied that the two were compatible, Curry's are on dodgy ground. If it made no such claims, then you're reliant upon goodwill.
Surely it's better to keep the machine and try to return the holder?
The pods are your son's problem, he should have checked what pods the machine took. If he had, you probably would have spotted the other problem sooner.0 -

Tricky one. When you look at the machine on Currys, it shows the capsule types (hemispherical) very clearly. The holder in the promotion shows the "normal" capsule type (the one I've come across at work and people's homes). Personally, I think it's misleading but I can see Currys' argument that a customer should check what they're buying.
Why can't your son return the pods he's bought, to at least minimise the loss there. It seems odd to buy a machine (the expensive bit) and want to return it because a cheap accessory is incompatible. What have Currys said about returning the holder for a refund of £20.80 ? They may be amenable to that.
Or is it that you realise you selected the wrong type of machine and want the type that takes the "normal" capsules?0 -
On the the product description on the curry’s website states it is compatible with all pod types.Alongside your Nespresso coffee machine, this chrome capsule holder brings style to your kitchen. It holds up to 40 of any of the Nespresso capsules, so you can keep your range neatly stored in one place. If this isn’t the case I’d have thought you’d have a basis to request Curry’s address.1

Aylesbury_Duck Yes, I wanted a machine that takes the smaller capsules. I know it's my fault for not checking properly, I didn't know they even had 2 types of capsules. But when I saw the stand, I just assumed that's what the machine used.
Doverswot - yes, it states any nespresso capsules, not nespresso vertuo.0 -
I have responded to Curry's and pointrd out their misleading offer. It's still on their website, I've suggested they remove it from the vertuo machines. I will sell on, if I don't get any joy.0

Hi, just a follow up.
I emailed the CEO, and finally had a response today. They have agreed to let me return the coffee machine3
