Why can't i print?

I have a hp envy 6220 printer and when i print all i get is a very poor faint print. It says the ink levels are ok. I have attached an example of a test print, I hope i did that correctly. What can i do?

Go into the printer's control panel/properties/settings/call it what you like (you can usually get to this if you go to priint something and go through the Printer Properties link).  Somewhere in there will be the Head Cleaning section.

Have you taken the pieces of tape of the inks? I had similar and rushing to install them, forgot to take them off a cartridge.

That wouldn't cause a faint print.  All that would do is not print anything at all.  If you don't take the top tape off to expose the air hole, the printer would work but only until the air in the cartridge ran out, as you're generating a vacuum inside said cartridge, and so without that hole open no more air can get in so no printing.

I have gotten some improvement but now i am low in the tricolour cartridge. When the diagnostic page is printed i dont get any of the text or the black block but do get all the coloured bits.

I am now wondering if that is the case with the black ink considering i get none of the parts that rely on black on the diagnostic page. Wouldnt it tell me if i had made such a mistake and it wouldnt give me an ink level for it would it?

Easiest way to check is to take them out and look.
