Yes i think she does get winter paymentsmolerat said:I think the problem is over the Severe Disablement Allowance. If claiming some benefits you need to contact the Pension Service if deferring and you cannot build up the extra pension whilst claiming those benefits. Looks like something for Citizens Advice to help with as I don't think it is going to be a simple one.Has she been claiming Winter Fuel Payment ?0 -
So I think to start with it will be worth me ring DWP and see what they say and let them know what she already gets , Which I think they should already know and then start claiming her State Pension0

Probably worth your while completing an online benefits calculator, getting through to dwp could be difficult and have long wait times given the xmas break and covid on top.quattros said:So I think to start with it will be worth me ring DWP and see what they say and let them know what she already gets , Which I think they should already know and then start claiming her State Pension0 -
This may be slightly off topic, but it is about state pension deferral - I've been reading the DWP website, and it's not clear whether you can defer claiming your pension for 12 months and then take it as a lump sum with 2% interest over the base rate, IF you are a post 2016 pensioner - the suggestion seems to be that the lump sum option is only open to 'old' pensioners, ie those who reached pension age before the qualifying date in 2016.
Can anybody clarify? My wife is 66 in April and ideally would like to defer claiming for 12 months or more and then take the lump sum with interest.0 -
You cannot take a deferment lump sum (which has special treatment for tax purposes) if your State Pension age is after April 2016.
Looking at the gov.uk page you seem to be reading the pre 2016 section. Which doesn't apply to your wife.
