State pension advice .

Father in law is 90 with dementia in scotland so he cannot answer any questions . His two daughters have power of attorney .
Sister in law has been doing his banking .
She told me yesterday he has more money than he ever had .
Apart from free council tax and extra money for his condition she tells me he is receiving £800 a month oap on top . He also has a work pension of £90 per month ..
I know he was on minimum pension on the old style pension now around £130 per week
His wife died 12 years ago but she hardly ever worked .
Looking it up his wife was entitled to 60% of the oap so £130 and £70 approx makes £200 weekly .
Surely government has not been overpaying him for 12 years .

He would likely have been entitles to second state pension snd also contracted out money if he is on the old state pension.
He should have a statement outlining what his payments are, one is sent every year.
His wife would have been paid separately. Either into her own account or a joint. But certainly separately stating her own ni number as reference,

If the POA is registered with DWP, then call them and they can go over the figures.

Its not between the 2 of them.
Your mother, as said above got a pension separately.
Mine and my hubbys state pensions are paid in separately . As is every pensionerv
With different reference, ie NI numbers

My late father was receiving a state pension of over £800 every 4 weeks until his death in June..... nothing odd about that.

He  should receive a statement every year (around March) showing how his pension is made up.
It should show the basic plus  any graduated pension plus  any additional state pension.

Hopefully, everything is ok....but if m-in-law's pension was paid into the same joint account, and if no-one informed DWP of her death, then an overissue can't be ruled out.
Can sis-in-law access bank statements to see exactly what is being paid in?

if no-one informed DWP of her death,

Has  her  annual statement of benefit letter continued to arrive?
