I wanna north face (or other)down coat that it seems you can't get in England

Hello. I'm going to Banff in January (very cold) and I'm thinking I need a (woman's) down jacket/coat. Most of the ones for sale here seem to only come to your waist as they are designed for skiing, but I'm not going skiing or hiking, and I need something that will keep me warm. In pursuit of a longer down jacket I came across several American websites with a huge selection of north face (amongst others) down coats, a much bigger selection than I've found anywhere in England. What's more, is that naturally they are cheaper (dollar price equal to sterling price). However, it seems that none of these American shops are allowed to ship North Face or Patagonia outside the USA. Does anyone know why, or if there is anywhere I can get this selection of down coats in Britain, or even of any American sites that can ship abroad?

Thanks

    Hi there,

I can highly recommend Lands End for down coats. They're not cheap though! Try www.landsend.co.uk and look under outerwear. They have a clearance section too which may be worth a look.
    Hope this helps.

    hi temba,

I have been looking for a long down coat too, for winter walking, we go all day and need to be warm, they have quite a good selection on ebay, quite pricey, but well worth it, as they do keep you warm as toast.

Hi, thanks for your messages. Here is a link to one of the pages I was looking at. There are loads of jackets here.

Also here's another link to one I was looking at:

Hi everyone, thanks so much for very useful info and links. Mountainchrisriver, that site is brilliant. I had a good look and will certainly remember it...

BUT I took a plunge earlier today and bought a mountain hardwear coat (after all that searching for Northface!!) from an american site which will deliver in UK. Here is what I bought:
    http://www.rei.com/product/753531?vcat=REI_SEARCH

I think the site looks okay, and the price was really good, especially since if you sign up to their emails you get an extra 15% off your first order, so the coat ended up only costing £100, though the international postage was PRICEY ($75!!!). It still works out cheaper than most of the coats I was looking at in England, though Mountainchrisriver's link is very competitive.

Well fingers crossed that my coat arrives in time.

    Thanks everyone.
    Temba :)

If it doesn't, the main street in Banff has plenty of shops that will be happy to kit you out from top to toe in cold weather gear. Canmore just down the road is smaller but cheaper.:D

Have a great time- I do assume it's the Canadian Banff, not the Scottish one...;)

Yes.... the Canadian Banff... thanks everyone for all your replies! I'll be buying all my thermals in Banff since I've been so disorganised about getting them here!
