Very wide fitting shoes

I'm trying to get shoes and slippers for a disabled lad who has very large feet, size 11 or 12 but very wide fitting and a very high instep. We have tried stores with EEEEE width but still too small, long enough but he can not get his foot into the shoe. The NHS kindly make one pair of shoes every 6 months but we would like to supplement his footwear with trainer type or slippers or anything that fit.

Without paying the £500++ for hand made shoes is there any place that sells very large sizes or is it possible to DIY some shoes?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Crocs, we ordered and they have had to go back, far to small over the instep.

Cosyfeet have a good selection of socks (they are also a problem) but their website does not have much detail about sizing. Shoes look OK and the slippers, he wants some that look like his granddad's. Might give them a try.

DB shoes looks very promising giving the exact measurement of foot length and across the instep. We are going to try them first.

DB shoes are large, the 6V (ie variable from 6E to 8E) are a very wide fit, and actually do fit. They also have a nice range of shoes.
Hotter only go up to 3 or 4E
