Pg mutual income protection

Hi I've been self employed 13 years. Luckily I've not been ill more than a few days and have 3-6 months savings as emergency.
I've considered income protection insurance. Pg mutual have quoted around £25 a month for around £1000 per month cover that kicks off from day 1 sickness apparently. It's slightly short of monthly outgoings but was testing quotes.
Although self employed, I may be going into part self employed, part nhs employed route some time next year (maybe)
1) How's that quote sound?
2) worth doing? Whether self employed or part self employed?
3) any other insurers to consider?
4) other options?
In my 30s, non smoker, single no kids. Good health. Peace.

Income protection comes in two varieties, to use their technical names:
1) ASU (also known as PPI) which typically pays out for a year then stops
2) PHI which pays out until your stated retirement date
The average PHI claim is 6 years and so anyone who saved the pennies and bout ASU instead will have not been paid for the other 5 years. ASU however does pay for unemployment in certain circumstances but that is normally excluded for the self employed.
You need to understand what product you are applying for to work out if prices are good or bad... based on the price my guess would be ASU so the question would be on what your plan would be if it was a long term sickness you had?1
