My neighbour has an infestation of flies in her kitchen (first floor flat). They do not buzz, do not seem to fly around much and do not seem interested in the cat's food, the bin or anything else. They mostly just crawl up and down the window until they die or she shoos them out. She has put fly papers up in every room, but the only papers that have flies on are in the kitchen. Even if she gets rid of all of them, more appear next day. I haven't had flies in my flat for months - I can leave my cat food down all day in my flat with no problem. I'm feeding her cat at the moment and I find it quite creepy. I wondered whether they were coming in through either the boiler vent or kitchen vent, but I haven't seen any flies near either. Can anyone shed any light on this - I walk past her kitchen window to go to work and I see flies wandering up and down her window. No-one else in the area has this problem. The neighbour beyond the stairs has a kitchen window which faces the same way and has no problems.

Whatkind of flies are they? Normal flies or little bitty flies? Has she got house plants?

They sound like cluster flies. I once had them inside my adjoining garage, congregating on the window. Took some getting rid of.

Sound like cluster flies to me.
Has she got a loft space ??
If she has that's where they will be coming from.
These are highly effective, I use them every year.

Thank you for your replies. They certainly behave like cluster flies and I believe that the boiler engineer had to go into the loft space recently. I will let her know about the smoke bombs. "Old-Stylers" know everything - it's wonderful.January 2021 Frugal Living limit £339.50, target £300
