Apart from RL looking like they closed the whole thing and sending me a raft of paperwork telling me my RL pension is now 'paid up' when it isn't and should definitely still be accepting the money from my employer, it was quick and fairly painless.

A number of providers cannot enact transfers out unless they change the status of the plan (and back again afterwards when doing partial transfers).  It may be linked to that.

I think that's what I'll have to do anyway tbh......I was just after some opinion from people already in that boat, in case there were any deal-breaker gotchas.....I guess with the ongoing ITI affair, I'd really rather avoid more hassle than I need at the moment......I suppose I'm also hoping really that if there were any major issues, a high profile investment company like Vanguard would probably have it flagged up on this forum at least, if not the wider financial media.......but sometimes you have to ask the question.

MoneyMad, yes, you are wrong. Vanguard have several drawdown options, recently introduced. MK62 ,I find Vanguard helpful when required and a good platform for my simple needs. I have both Pension  and ISA and  satisfied with all aspects this far,Regards

Just a quick follow up...thanks for the replies and input..... I bit the bullet yesterday and opened a Vanguard SIPP.
The website is a little different, but I suppose that's not surprising really.....it does appear to cover all the basics I need (though my needs for this SIPP are fairly basic).
The application process was pretty quick and straightforward - I was up and running within 10-15mins (though as someone warned, the debit card deposit isn't available to invest immediately, even though it shows on the account - no real problem though for me).
All in all, it's early days, but all looking good so far (and, so far at least, no sign of any of the glitches or gotchas I was a bit wary of.....though that's probably my heightened paranoia after the SVS/ITI fiasco.... ;) )
