Gold coins Harrington and Byrne. help!

Need some urgent advice. My dad is 90. He has bought a gold coin from Harrington and Byrne. He thinks it's worth £600 but it is for sale on their website for £39. He has signed up to and paid on his Barclaycard 4 or 5 monthly payments of £139.80. starting in February. Help! Is it a scam or has he just signed up to something he didn't understand. I have emailed H&B obv no reply yet. Anyone deal with this company before?

There are all the contact details on the site including a phone number. It certainly appears legit. I have no experience of them though.
I doubt a gold coin would be worth £39. Are you sure it's the same thing?

for £39 but at 0.5g, I think calling it a coin is pushing it a bit as if you sneeze when holding it, it will probably vanish for good.

There are no coins costing £39 on the Harrington and Byrne website; there is nothing costing less than £699.
And £139.20 * 5 = £699, so I think it likely he has bought a 2018 Australia Coronation Jubilee Quarter Ounce Gold Proof Coin. He has paid about double what the gold is worth.

I doubt it is a scam. Why would you scam people out of money when you can sell a real coin for twice what it is worth?
Also the website looks correct in that it has all the legally prescribed information on it. The company is registered and has been trading for six years. The T&Cs allow him to return it for a full refund within 30 days.

Most sovereigns feature George and a Dragon, but H&B are offering uncirculated 2020 sovs for £339 which is bang on at current rates. Obviously no one will sell you one of these for £39 so there is some confusion somewhere, perhaps you are looking at a 'quarter sovereign' commemorative, plated coin. Given they style themselves as 'Philatelic Experts' and not bullion sellers it's entirely possible that it is a proof coin. £600 is within the range for one of these, Chards are offering them on promotion for £540. So I think your starting point should be to identify precisely what it is that your Dad has purchased
