Lowering council tax band

HI everyone. i have tried to get my house into band b from band c, but the VOA say that i must provide evidence of the house value within 2 years either side of 1991, which is difficult becuase on the internet you can only go back as far as 1995, and i have contacted HM Land registry under freedom of information and they can not provide any historic prices for my house. does anyone know if i asked for sold prices for other houses on my street, would they give it to me - or how else i can provide proof that our house was not any where near what they valued it at back in 1991 ?
Based on the sold prices in 1995 our house shoudl have been band B, but that is 1995 and i need info from 2 years either side of 1991.
thanks
Tracy

In most areas 1995 prices were around 20-25% lower than 1991, so you should be able to roughly calculate the 1991 price. You can pay LR £3 to download details of a house title which usually includes price. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

You could try looking through the property pages in the local newspaper archives for 1991 ? As lincroft says, you need to bear in mind that 1995 prices were usually significantly lower than those in 1991.

I found that most of the historic sales prices were on Zoopla, otherwise I suggest you appeal and then the VOA then have to provide you with this information.0

Zoopla is inaccurate and I get the impression from OP's first post that she is out of time to appealpphillips said:I found that most of the historic sales prices were on Zoopla, otherwise I suggest you appeal and then the VOA then have to provide you with this information.

Thanks for this information. So would the LR only show me how much the house price was the last time it was purchased/last time searches were carried out by a conveyancer?lincroft1710 said:In most areas 1995 prices were around 20-25% lower than 1991, so you should be able to roughly calculate the 1991 price. Hi
Does anyone know if a link-detached house is classed as a semi-detached or detached house in respect of council tax banding. I live in a link-detached (joined by garage) and have been told I am 'detached', however on checking other houses in my streeet with the same banding those classed as 'detached' really are detached? Do I have a case?
Thanks0 -
CT bands are based on property prices as at 1 Apr 1991 (Eng and Scot) or 1 Apr 2003 (Wales). So if the value of a link detached at the relevant date falls into the same band parameters as a similar size and age detached then the band would be correct. So you may or may not have a case.surfingdude123 said:Hi

Hi I bought new build property 2015 band c. I appealed and was refused. Just found letter again and properties they liken mine too are over mile away yet properties within metres of my property which are band b?? Although they are much older! Can I take this any further?0

As the nearby properties are much older they may not be comparable and may also be smaller and/or of a different type so may well have been cheaper in 1991 than your home had it existed at that date. You can ask for a further review but without new evidence they'll probably just say it has already been fully investigatedspendaholicleo said:Hi I bought new build property 2015 band c.
