SIPP tax relief, reinvest?

Hi all,
I’ve been paying a relatively small amount into a Sipp pension for a few years now which I set up before I had a work place pension (which I contribute more into for employer match)
Recently I found out I could claim higher rate relief on my sipp contributions so a call to HMRC today confirmed this and they worked out my last 4 years and said I’ll be getting a refund via cheque Great 😊.
My question is..I’d like to put this refund back into my SIPP or will that affect my relief claim for 2020- 2021 tax year? In my head next year I’ll be claiming tax relief on my years worth of contributions and the money I received tax relief for the past 4 years? I maybe completely missing the point, I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything that’s going to cause me issues later on.

Any personal tax benefit to you always comes back to you, it doesn't go in the pension fund.
But if you choose to use that to contribute more to the SIPP then that is fine presuming you are within the relevant allowances.
Don't forget that you may then be entitled to some additional tax relief (on top of the amount the pension provider adds to the SIPP) which would again come back to you. So you could then add to the SIPP and so in ever decreasing amounts!0 -
If you have access to a workplace pension does your employer operate salary sacrifice to save the national insurance on the contributions? If so it may be more efficient than contributing into a SIPP.0
