Oh, why is this then? Circulation, getting cold or something?

It would be to do with neuropathy and circulation issues. The person wearing them might not be able to feel if they step on something (there are horror stories around about people with diabetes walking around for days with drawing pins or needles embedded in their feet, totally unaware.) Any ridges or lumps in mended socks can also rub against the skin and over a period of time can cause a nasty foot ulcer, due to the impaired circulation. These potential problems are the reason that people with diabetes should have regular foot checks through their GP surgery.

Probably because the uneven surface can cause ulcers or break the skin if rubbed too much. Thanks to poor circulation, healing would be affected.

@Sweetlittledaydreams you are surrounded with like minded people just not physically. Pop in here anytime there is always someone to chat to. We all get inspiration off each other. Talk to your other half or family anyway they will get used to it and hearing you. It will take a long time probably never but don't loose heart we are all here for you. My DH just accepts it when I am on a purge in here catching up. He certainly has never questioned the results
put does a bit of a sigh when I do act in a serious MSE way.
As I have always been the money stasher of the house he just does as required

Diabetes need to be super careful with all things foot related.and take no risks. Not even the risk of lumpy or bumpy socks which might rub. When it comes to a diabetics footwear and footcare, never ever scrimp or cut corners in any way that can be avoided. It's not worth the risk of permanent damage or injury.About 35k March 24

Diabetic people can lose sensation in their feet and not realise that they have a foot injury. They are also liable to have poor healing so a tiny injury can become a nasty ulcer which won't heal and the ultimate possibility is ending with an amputated limb. I nursed many people with this condition back in the 80's and 90's . I hope with improved care and regular foot checks this doesn't happen as often now but this is why so much emphasis is placed on diabetic foot care.
I still have vivid memories of some of the awful things I saw as a new student nurse, please take care !Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/212 -
I really enjoy mending things and making them last longer. My sewing machine is brilliant for re sewing seams or a quick zigzag stitch over a rip, as someone else said I feel fonder of the things I have mended. I don't tend to mend socks unless it's a hole in the leg part as generally they go thin in a huge area and the darn can be uncomfortable and it doesn't last for long. I have mended underwear and shopping bags and other cheap things though.
My favourite trick is to add a pretty patchwork shape over a mend, although the male family members aren't so keen on this !!
One of my sons is still wearing everyday trousers that I mended and reinforced huge rips in a couple of years ago, so that was well worth doing.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/212 -

You could also go on line and get seed catalogues - they're free, and will have other varieties you can try.
I've never suffered with blight since using the above varieties. - good luck.Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget9
