Was pleased to discover the balance of gift cards in my account with the big river company. These have been accrued through surveys, credit card points, Royal Mail panellist, taking photos of shopping receipts, etc. I was able to order a new toaster along with a 'cage' for making toasted sandwiches, all for the grand cost of zilch! 😃Use it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

£90 per month that’s a fantastic saving.

Zilch is the best kind of price.
The weather here is dreadful, so it’s a stay at home day. I’ll be making some lemon curd to use up some lemons, and I’ve found a recipe online for turning the white pith into pectin https://www.thespruceeats.com/homemade-citrus-pectin-1327833. Other than that I’m going to have a lazy day – do a bit of knitting and a bit of reading and that’s all.

Morning all, Thrifty_Taylor - that's fantastic - didn't know all those money making things existed !! Those sarnies will be extra delicious. AnimalTribe thats' a great idea, I once bought a bottle of Apple Pectin it cost a fortune !! Will copy that idea, thank you - love to get multiple uses out of everything.
More preserving for me, watching the damsons everyday hoping they ripen before the winds pick up and scatter them all !! This year going to try dehydrating them - have a mind to save on dried fruit and try to use foraged fruit as an alternative...... might make for an interesting christmas cake........
Have a brilliant day everyone xxJourney on the Frugal Wagon to Self Reliance.

Did overspend in the food budget by £9. Did not plan what was really needed at one point. Other categorys were ok. Got some shifts at work for first 2 weeks in September. Really have to plan spends for September and be more mindful. Still bringing my own lunch into work. Used up some toiletries this month.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20139

Hi all
Just checking in, have had a difficult couple of weeks with some expensive bills but hanging in there. DS1 has come home with what we all thought was Covid but his PCR test was negative. I wasnt expecting to be feeding him so that will mean a bit of juggling.
We are going away soon for five nights and I am slightly regretting booking this, had I known that our finances were going to go so pear shaped I wouldnt have done. We are self catering though so can be frugal with food and activities at least.
I have worked out that we are overpaying on our electricity DD but not rushing to do anything straight away, will see how the next few months works out. Need some heating oil but I have enough saved to get a top up which is good, just need a mild autumn so we dont need the heating on too much.9 -

Make sure you enjoy your days away! They may be the last in a while and need to 'fill' you with good memories for a long time!

A nice free afternoon yesterday entertaining DD and DS. Went for a walk to wear out DS (DD slept through it), picked apples (tree overhangs into our road and the owner never uses any of the apples) and blackberries on the way for my freezer. Then came back and went into the garden to pick 5 pears, 8 apples, 2 strawberries, 5 raspberries, a whole bowl of blackberries and another of blueberries.
Promptly cancelled my fruit delivery this week as no longer needed. Also hacked back a plant I was thinking of buying a heavy duty metal plant ring for, but on my walk I saw what other people had done and realised I could just hack it back instead.
