Great news, I got an email notification last night. First job for them will be to help on the veg plot before I move them back to their proper house. They'll love digging over the beds and eating all the grass now on the paths.Jazee said:Hen lockdown ends on 31st March.10 -
I've had variable results with bulbs in the garden and outdoor containers, I've tried snowdrops which never appeared, daffodils are good and crocus are fine. These particular hyacinths are indoor ones but I think they can be planted out. I've managed to grow grape hyacinths from bulbs successfully (very small variety). I'm more of a vegetable gardener and use seeds more than bulbs. I have lots of slugs and snails to contend with so not sure if they eat bulbs but it would explain the lack of snowdrops!.AskYouWillGet said:@MazzieD I've never grown Hyacinth and just gooogled it and the result from WikiHow has ideas to help prevent snapping. Are these an easy plant? Looking for more flowers that will look after themselves, I usually go for self seeding wild-life attracting types but not done much with bulbs. Bought a few crocus last year and the voles ate them!10 -
I always plant out the bulbs from my indoor hyacinths .They usually come up in the following years. I'm sitting here looking at some I planted out about three years ago. They are just starting to flower.13

Not quite - the humans are allowed out from 29 March so 2 days earlier! The stay at home order ends then but we can still only go out for the day but not overnight anywhere. This is for England - don't think it's the same for the other UK nations though.apple_muncher said:The hens get freed before the humans!!! They probably have more sense than some humans...

I have a lovely picture in my mind of the great hen release from lockdown! 🐔🐣I made a nice fake away dinner tonight - a chicken kebab, salsa Chili sauce, salad and homemade flatbread. We really enjoyed it. One chicken breast was enough for us both as I added onions and mushrooms to the skewer, will definitely make that again.I'm gradually sorting through the big pile of recipes that I've cut out from newspapers and magazines and organising them into a folder. The chicken kebab and flatbread recipe were in the muddled up heap of papers so i'm motivated to keep sorting through and hope to find some more treasures.11

Sounds so yummy @Blackcats. Properly fell off the frugal wagon at H*mebase today. Needed a new hosepipe and one thing led to another 🤦. Lots of seeds planted and pots available for spring time planting at least. Spent the afternoon making a doll's house out of a cardboard box though so have atoned somewhat!10
