If you aren't bothered about selling the books, do you have a book cycle shop? These seemed to pop up when our library closed. They take old books then people go in and donate a small amount to take as many books as they want.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.8

Nicki_Sue said:Hi all!
I hope you've all had a peaceful Christmas?
I'm still working on my 2021 budget (I'm self-employed and the husband is employed so I'm working on a monthly one). I've been busy today working on decluttering a little ( a lot - we all felt it was much needed). How are people getting rid of unwanted items? Our local charity shops aren't taking donations, there's isn't anything of great value to sell and our Freecycle is very quiet at the moment. I use to get so many charity bags through the door but haven't in ages. I have mostly books, some bric a brac including mugs and puzzles and likely some clothes.

Thanks @Betharooni - I've tried both. I made a killing on Magpie years ago but no luck this time.
To be honest, at this point I'll just be glad to get the box out of the house somewhere other than landfill.MSE-ing since 20078 -
@wort and @skintchick - Thanks!
I asked my friend at the library and they are fit to burst. This is a good thing in a way but they need to sell some because they aren't fully supported by the council anymore and need to keep the lights on!
I hadn't thought of the tip - will try there.

Hi
I won’t be posting a budget as such. Since OH took early retirement the household bills apart from food comes straight out of his account. My part time job buys food, holidays, Xmas and my spends, OH works P/t too which brings in treat money and runs the car etc.
I plan to cut back and any left over money will clear the credit cards, then pay for holidays and an emergency fund. ( I do have an emergency fund but not as big as I’d like) I’m allowing myself £15 a week food money starting from Xmas day as I get paid weekly on a Friday. So far I’ve spent nothing this week and will move leftover money from my account off my credit cards the night before payday each week. We’ve loads of food in, I’ve enough toiletries for quite a while and there’s no point buying any new clothes for now as we can’t go anywhere anyway. I did get vouchers for Xmas but I’ve bought summer clothes because in theory I might get a reason to dress up by then.
Happy new frugal year everyone and good luck

Hi, I don't post a budget either @cuddlymarm.
My month started on 25th as that's when OH usually gets paid. We have done our first pantry stock up shop which was mainly cleaning suplies as all of the ones we normally use were on offer.

Same here @[Deleted User]. That's what we're planning this week but probably not until Wednesday or Thursday.

Luciecat63 said:I've been having a look at my budget, which is quite complicated. In theory I allocate £784.50 to everything that I have any control over (groceries, utilities, clothes and hair, books and crafts, holidays, outings, Christmas and birthdays, classes and clubs, petrol and fares). Each "pot" has a spending limit, and if I don't spend that amount in a month, it should go into a savings account. I have often bought more books, clothes and craft supplies than I allocated and Covid-19 has made that tendency worse, because my spending on classes, hair, holidays and petrol have all gone down. My plan is to get this under control, so I will have to have a series of monthly targets which depend on where we are with the virus. My maximum spend for January will therefore be £339.50, with a target of £300.00, which is achievable if I am careful. I hope it's okay to do it this way? I really can't see my way clear for this year, but I would like to see what I can achieve.
MAKE IT FUN!
