Leaving job question

I’m leaving my job at the end of the year, as i’m in the probation period still I only need to give 1 weeks notice.
My question is, if I put in my notice could they terminate my job after i’ve put in my resignation?
What i’m aiming to do is get paid for this month in it’s entirety.
So for example if I put in my notice tomorrow (Tuesday, notice period would kick in on Wednesday) and say i’m leaving on the 31st December, could they turn round and say we’ll get rid of next Wednesday and use the two way notice period against me?
thanks

They could if they wanted too generally its best to not give more notice than you need to1

There are also the upcoming bank holiday days to consider as they might decide to accept a week from your notice as your leave date so they don't have to pay them.0

Tender your notice period, no more and time it to suit you.

Quite - given the way they fall, resigning on 5 January sounds like the best idea.orchid2010 said:There are also the upcoming bank holiday days to consider as they might decide to accept a week from your notice as your leave date so they don't have to pay them.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
BH dates are not really relevant it's holiday accrual.
Losing a couple of weeks work would be ~1 day less statutory holiday pay due.

Resigning on 5 January doesn't help someone wanting to leave on 31 December.Marcon said:

I guess you mean resign so employment is terminated on 5 January. So one week's notice would mean delivering notice on 29 December when many workplaces are closed for the period between Christmas and New Year.
It would also involve having accrued enough holiday for the Bank Holiday (if part of contracted holiday) and working on 2 and 3 January if the OP works Monday-Friday.
Does OP have work to do in a new job on 1 January 2021?

i would keep it simple and give one week notice as required. they won't take offence as you are doing it by the book.0
