Best affordable private health care plan to cover things like hip or knee replacement?

Hi folks,
I'm in early sixties and just started researching private health insurance that could cover or give  large discount on private health cover procedures such as hip or knee  replacement.
Just did an online quote from BUPA, cost well out of my league, £50-70 plus a month, to be honest I would pay out of savings if I had to have a knee or hip or knee replacement than go the monthly route with them.
Just out of curiosity  what does the average hip replacement op cost privately if you have an idea?
Probably If I live long enough I will have to get one of the above done eventually.
I'm a non smoker.
Thanks very much if you have any info or advice you can give me as regards the above.

There's so much info out there, best to have a wander around the internet and (as above) get some advice from those who have had it done.

The relief from pain in an arthritic hip is almost instant.  Only the healing wound to contend with!

My experience is with knees, not hips.

Make sure whatever packages/insurance you look at includes everything.  You will need regular physiotherapy starting from when they let you get out of bed which is usually the day following surgery these days.  You will also have outpatient visits for quite a long time.  I had my knee done in 2011 and my final visit is next year.  Only then will I be discharged!

Some of the  prices for private surgery do not include physio and certainly not 10 years of aftercare.

Does anyone have any experience with joint replacement abroad? I've been looking at this website: the clinic in Lithuania has great reviews but I'm always suspicious about reviews -- they can be invented or bought.

I had a hip replacement two years ago. It was done in Germany and was excellent, no problems since then. At the time I still had German public insurance which covered all my costs as well as three weeks rehabilitation in a rehab clinic on the Baltic sea, which was excellent.
I now have knee problems on the same side. I no longer have German insurance.

I now live in Ireland and have Irish private health insurance as well as HSE basic coverage. I extended the coverage to include orthopedic treatment, but stupidly I went to see a consultant about it in August and because of that it's a pre-existing condition and surgery won't be covered. Should have waited six months before seeing the consultant!  He said I do have arthritis and would need surgery in about five years. But I don't want to wait. It's very painful and I am 69. The older I get, the more difficult the surgery will be.

It seems HSE would cover part of the costs abroad?
So I'm looking for personal accounts of joint replacement done abroad.
