  • Has he tried Monzo or Starling? App on phone - don't apply for an overdraft. Should be quick and easy.

  • They are banks. BACS and online payments/transfers etc yes - cheques I've no idea. Google or other search engine will probably tell you very quickly.

  • You can pay in Cheque into Starling by taking a photo of the Cheque via the app max £500 or you can post it to their freepost address.

    MSE updated their list of Top basic bank accounts in September 2020. Provided he chooses one that is not financially associated with any of his creditors, he can operate one. Pay in, cash card, DDs etc but no overdraft and usually no credit check. Does need ID, though.

    He says he's opening one with the Co-op bank, and sounds a bit more cheerful. I hope the Co-op hasnt got ties with RBS?

    No, they’re a totally different Bank. Only NatWest have ties with RBS.
