Sisal carpets (I think)

We've recently moved into a new house which is carpeted throughout in cream carpets, which feel quite rough in texture, and which I think might be sisal. Sadly, DS was violently ill over the weekend and managed to vomit from the top of one flight of stairs to the bottom, and also in several places in his bedroom. I cleaned the carpet at the time with stardrops and water and a microfibre cloth, but not all the marks came out. Then tried Vanish carpet stain remover with no joy. My OH then decided to use the VAX carpet shampooer (which he's never done before) I didn't check what he was doing, and rather than shampoo the whole carpet he focussed only on the bits that were stained, and, I fear, overwet the area, with the result that these parts of the carpet are now more darkly stained than the rest. As I promptly went down with what my son had, the carpets have been left untouched now since Sunday.
Does anyone have any experience of this kind of carpet? For the ones that have been stained and badly cleaned, is it too late to do anything about these? I hope not as the stair carpet goes up four stories and will cost a fortune to replace! The damage was done on the section leading from living room to bedrooms so is the first thing people see when they come through the front door. Would contents insurance cover this kind of accident? For the ones which didn't suffer this horrible fate this time round, is there a better way to clean them in the future?
Please help if you can

Yes contents insurance would cover if you have accidental damage I believe. Could you just replace part of the stari carpet and hide the join into one of the treads?

Oh, I didn't think of that, and the previous owners kindly left some off cuts behind which would easily be big enough. Thanks for the idea.0
