Something I've always wondered about is whether you can fry it... as in classic 'fried rice' recipes. Anybody know?

All fried rice is just rice thats been cooked, allowed to get cold, then fried so easy cook or other, you can fry it.
Just when you boil it, just dont cook to stodge, you want nice separate grains1 -
Sorry. Just don't understand what you're saying.
So-called 'easy-cook' rice, if I have this right, is otherwise known as 'par-boiled rice'. In other words, it has already been subjected to a cooking process. What I want to know is whether this has any implications for its use in 'fried rice' applications.0 -
If you mean the microwave bag ones - I'd try microwave them first to 'finish' the cooking process, let them cool to cold, then fry them. When they come out of the pack they are still quite solid -whereas cooked traditional rice gone cold isn't as solid.
Fried rice is always cooked rice that's gone cold, so finish the cooking before you fry it.0 -

Easy cook is just plain rice with most of the starch removed for you so you dont have to go through the rinsing till the water runs clean bit
It has not been pre cooked0 -
You have to boil it as per the packet instructions then drain it. After that you can use it to make fried rice.0

Yes - cook it first - let it go cold - preferably overnight - then make fried rice the following day.0

Also on the side of the pack it actually says it can be stirfryed. So no cooling required.0 -
'Easy cook' rice has been parboiled to reduce the cooking time.I've had a problem buying non easy cook brown rice.Tesco say on their easy cook brown rice packaging "part cooked and lightly milled to give non-stick grains".So it's just the same rice a bit further along the cooking process.0
