What computer bits do we need to buy please?

Options
My  13 year old son has said he wants to put together a computer for gaming. We want to get him some of the bits and pieces to start it for Christmas. Please can anyone point me in the right direction for the best place to get the pieces and also what it is we need to get him, we haven't a clue and want to surprise him. He already has a Corsair Spec-Delta Carbide Series, RGB Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Gaming Case, if that makes any sense to anyone, that he has bought. So what do we get him please?

Case (which you have), power supply (PSU, you might already have one included in your case), motherboard, processor (CPU), graphics card (GPU, not absolutely required but you'll want one for a gaming PC), memory (RAM), and a solid state drive (SSD) or hard drive or possibly both. You'll also need a USB stick to use for installing an operating system, a license for Windows 10 if you'll be using that (you could run Linux instead but about 75% of PC games run on Windows only), and of course a keyboard mouse and screen.
Logical Increments has sample builds at various price points. You don't have to get exactly what's there, but it gives you a good idea what to buy to get a PC that's well balanced.

The "system builder" will allow you to spec and price up his ideal system, and show you where the best prices are to be found, and also checks the parts for compatibility. :)

Don't bother looking for a gfx card atm as new cards from both companies (Nvidia & AMD) have just had world wide releases and are very scarce atm.

You need to know what games are going to be played and what resolution and speed the monitor is capable of displaying to decide what card is best.

Thank you for all the advice and links. Looks like he won't get a complete computer this Christmas but it means he can save and add to it.

Built a full gaming pc for a friend last week for £770.
Depending on specs wanted, what games does he want to pay and at what resolution/frame rate.
I am happy to put a recommended spec together if it gives a firmer target.

LogicalIncrements.com is also a good place to start - it has a recommended build at every price point.
