IT is actually worse than not getting paid a premium for some of the hours worked, employer can pay less and even zero(many do) for hours as long as the average pay for the hours that are worked is over min wage.

Plus, if you were ever facing a disciplinary situation, the employer would have no choice but to allow you to be accompanied by a union rep.
"If you do not want to recognise the union and have more than 21 employees, they can apply for statutory recognition from the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC)."
