Does this level of tax on a bonus sound about right?

Hi all
On a salary of £38750 and got a £1000 bonus this month. Of this £1000 I was taxed £379 and charged NI of £113.
Does that sound about right? I’m in Scotland which has a slightly different system but in general it works out roughly the same.
It seems a little high to me, but probably only by around £60 or so.

I always found bonuses didn't have as much left after deductions as hoped. Use the above calculator for a second opinion.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
What tax code are you on ? I make NI correct but tax only an additional £210 assuming 1250 tax code, something around 800 would show that amount of tax unless your earnings to date are not 8/12ths of £38K.

Agree it should be taxed ay 21% for month 8 there is enough headroom in the band unused for a £1k bonus0

Any other benefits in kind that might affect the tax paid? Would help to know the OPs tax code.0

One possibility is that you are on a non-cumulative tax code.
To check can you advise from your payslip what your taxable gross to date and tax paid to date is along with your tax code and anything that follows it eg 1 0 X NC C non cumulative cumulative0
