Anyone bought from The Door Store?

I need new doors and I came across The Door Store after browsing the net. They have a style of door I quite fancy but as I need 10 of them it's going to cost a fair bit so I'm keen to buy from somewhere reputable.

Anyone know of or had dealings with this place please? There's a branch in Whiteabbey and also Belfast.

  • Door store is excellent/highly recommended.

Have bought 7 solid oak doors in the past year and also spindles/ other stair case from them.

if you go in and ask for discount they should be able to knock off the VAT (ie 17.5% discount) especially since your getting 10 doors.

They do offers on now and again, (vat free weekends etc)

Getting 2 doors fitted today from them, they did front and back doors and a couple of internal doors in our last house. Ask for Billy Green to do the fitting for you, he does a good job, isn't hard to pay and he's a friendly bloke. They knocked a couple of quid off our already cheap doors without asking. That's from the whiteabbey branch.

Does anyone think a local carpenter would be a good alternative in the cost stakes? Do they even do such things as doors?

We got 9 oak doors form JB Doors in Dungannon and they are excellent. We got a local carpenter to hang them and he was very reasonable and lived in Portadown. If you want his number pm me.

I would recommmend Moffat Thallon over the Door Store. Doors look the same but are of much higher quality (confirmed by a guy I know in the trade). The Moffat Thallon doors appear much more expensive than the Door Store, but (in my case) they were pre-finished (no varnishing/staining - Door Store mainly sells unfinished) plus I got a decent discount - just by asking.

    Thanks everyone. :T
  • Rather than varnishing doors theres a guy in the old ICI factory in carrick that lacquers them, it's the best finish i've ever seen/felt on a door. The door needs to be fitted first then taken off and taken to him for lacquering. Can't remember how much he charges but definitely worth doing.
