I am looking for a good whisky for a present to a son in law but he does not like the ones that taste "peaty", Could anyone please give me some ideas?

If you're looking for a good whiskey in the mid-price range, Glenmorangie and Powers Distillers cut are two of my favourites that you can get from supermarkets. Very smooth, not very peaty at all.1

Thanks for the reply and I will check with dd if he has already tried either of them.0

Or any of the Irish single malt "whiskeys". None of them are peaty (that I've tried!!). Try JamesonsI'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.0

Scotch..
Cardhu gold can often be purchased at a big discount, ( around £25 ) so looks good .
Haig Club ( either version) generally suits the younger palette albeit most experts will not approve.

I love a peaty Lagavulin or Laphroaig myself. but by far my favorite "non-peaty" is the GlenDronach 18 - "Allardice" which is matured in sherry casks and is not at all peaty but instead is immensely smooth, fruity and utterly tremendous! It sounds bizarre, but it is a little reminiscent of drinking a christmas cake!
Plus, if you find one with a 2018 or 2019 bottling date, grab it!, because for reasons far too long winded to go in to here, you will be buying a 23 or 24 year old whisky for the price of the 18 year old!
For something a little less intense (and a lad easier on the wallet), the Bruichladdich Classic Laddie is light and vapoury with a taste of sea air and citrus and boiled sweets!
I would be very happy to receive either from my folks!
I've posted a possibly useful guide below, for "smoky" read "peaty".
• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.2
