Bt premium email address

Hi, new to the forum, having gone over my online banking this weekend i discovered I have had £9.06 per month being debited by BT i have noticed this previously in the past and assumed it was for a phone line etc, after phoning them today I have discovered I have been paying for a premium email service. The issue I have is that I not only did not need this service but did not require this service. This has been ongoing for a number of years, advice would be great on this?

What advice would you like? Check your banking more often and query stuff you don't recognise or want?
BT charge to keep an email address if you move away from their service that included the free one - you're basically saying they should give you email sending, storage etc when you're not paying anything for it. It's not a new thing.

If you didn't need your BT email then cancel the service.
No you aren't entitled to anything though if you didn't use the account for 2 years they might refund some of it as a courtesy, though obviously if the record shows you sending emails in that period they have no reason to do so.

    Me too :)

  • I have just left BT for phone and internet, after 30+ years.  In my discussions with BT, I have been constantly told that if I want to keep my 4 email addresses, I need to pay £7.50 a month for BT Premium.  This is not true - BT offer (hidden away in the email section) a BT Basic email account for free.  Once I had managed to convince BT staff that BT Basic existed, I then had to fight for all 4 email addresses to be included.  My email address is still active tho' it's only 3 days since my BT service ended, so I will have to keep an eye on things - I think that 60 days from the end of the service will be a trigger date.
So, you don't have to pay for your BT email address, but you do have to fight!
  • It's not hidden away in the slightest, it's listed along with the other 2 options they offer

You don't get to use email client or access on the phone so it's a fairly cut down service and has to be ordered when you cancel the broadband
