I recently entered one of the radio comps, this was the KP nuts one where you describe your ideal Xmas gift.
I have been on here since September and not won anything, usually go for tech, bluray, vegan stuff, gaming and money prizes. Would go for holidays but don't fancy going places alone.
Anyway I got a call earlier today from the radio station checking my details, telling me I will get a call between 8 and 9 tomorrow. I asked if I would be put through to being live as I'm autistic and said they can talk things through tomorrow with me.
I'm really nervous and extremely anxious, what is going to be expected of me exactly, anyone with experience able to walk me through, any advice. Thanks.

Hi Drewy
I was once chosen for a radio comp. Here's what happened:
My phone rang at 8AM, (woke me up actually as I was not expecting it) and it was the producer, who explained that I had been chosen to take part in an on-air competition against another listener. They explained what the format would be, what my part was and what I'd have to do, when I should be quiet etc. I then sat on hold for about half an hour before being put through to the presenter.
They expect a bit of banal chitchat, but the presenters are pros at this and will just ask you questions about yourself in order to get the expected level of content.
If they call you tomorrow for the prep talk and you're really not feeling up to it, you can always withdraw. In my case it wasn't the most fun experience I've ever had (except I did win, that was pretty darn great), but it was a lot easier and less scary than I was expecting beforehand.
I hope it goes well for you1 -
Hello, congrats. I too was a nervous wreck. I’d recommend thinking of it as talking to someone on the phone (which you are) rather than thinking about the fact you’re being broadcast on the radio. Also you may want to think about all the times you hear people on the radio and likely don’t give it a second thought.0

I hope I'm not put up against someone, only had to describe ideal Xmas present. I'm fine answering questions about what I wrote but not being put on the spot to answer random general knowledge or quiz like stuff. Hoping my signal doesn't go either as I'm in a pretty bad area for signal0

It doesn't look like the KP comp is pitting people against each other. It looks like you'll just be asked questions about yourself and what you wrote. I reckon you'll be alright0

You'll be great. Everyone's nervous about doing radio comps, so they'll help get you prepped. When you start talking to the presenter, just be yourself, as It's literally just a conversation between you and them; whether they broadcast it is irrelevant as far as you're concerned.
Congrats on winning! Post about how it goes, and what you won0 -
Don't think I won anything yet, not even sure what I'd win as my answer was to have the money to get my book proof read. I best write some answers to questions they may ask as I don't want to be umming and arrring0

Hi drewy82,
congratulations! Don’t be nervous, as previously mentioned the presenters are pros at making conversation. Most radio stations have a little chat with you and then edit the conversation to play at a later time, so don’t worry if you are feeling the conversation doesn’t flow, they’ll pick the best bits and edit the rest out. Think I wrote something like "As much as I'd love to get the latest console, I'd rather something that would benefit me long term such as having my novel proof read professionally. Then I can look at publishing and hopefully starting a new career if it goes well."0 -
After all that stress and barely getting any sleep at all cuz I was so anxious. I got out of bed, made my way outside as its the only place to get a full signal here. Stood there for over an hour waiting for this call and nothing.0
