3 Years experience as an admin assistant at a hospital would like to move city soon

to London and apply for another job but not sure if I would get a job looking at the current situation with the pandamic. Also this was my first ever full time job and I haven't worked anywhere else . I have struggled for years with being unemployed and I am very wary about leaving my job now.

Have you asked for a transfer? (is that a possibility...)
Honestly Im normally one to say go for it, but to move to London, one of the most expensive places to live, with no job in the current climate is a huge risk. Any benefits you would get wouldn't go very far at all.
Why do you want to move to London?2 -
big risk and bad timing unless you can get a transfer.1

A transfer is unlikely unless the NHS trust the OP currently works for has a presence in London. The OP is not employed by the NHS but by one of many separate independent trusts.I can't imagine that moving to London and trying to live on an admin assistant's salary is anywhere near feasible - unless the OP is immediately able to share accommodation costs with someone. Even then it would be difficult...4

Prepare to live your life in a tiny cupboard of a room in a shabby (at best) flat or house shared with 4+ strangers in the dodgy bit of SE14..and paying 500 + quid a month for the privilege..
London is not for the faint of heart at the best of times, let alone now, let alone on an admin girl's salary.2 -
I have to agree with all the others here. I was an administrator in the health service for over 20 years. You will never survive in London on an NHS admin wage, even with London weighting. Plus, now is a terrible time to move jobs. You're right to be wary of moving, stay where you are for a while is my advice. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Of course it is possible that the OP already has someone to move in with lined up, who hopefully isn't on the breadline. But even so, a risk if that relationship doesn't work out.
It's worth thinking about WHY you want to do this, and then WHY NOW? I'm a Londoner by birth (actually born in what's now the dodgy bit of SE14 as it happens :rotfl: ) and while I'd never want to live outside a city, nothing could induce me to go back to London.
If you are in a currently long-distance relationship, then moving nearer but staying outside London would probably reduce the risksSignature removed for peace of mind0 -
I've lived in London since 1994, alone 99-2004. Was a nervous breakdown territory even then. Now? Trust me..not recommend. Have a wild guess how I ended up on this esteemed message board.
London's incredible for a few months of youngster type fun with about 3 grand a month in your pocket, half for rent, half to live on- and that's bare minimum.
Don't even start me off on working in London. .
Reside and work at the top end of the Met line these days and haven't been to the City/West End for at least a couple of years. Have no wish to either. Been there, done that, never ever again.
OP, I too want to know why London?1 -
On the plus side, it's definitely a tenant's market at the moment. Looking on SpareRoom there are dozens of rooms available in South London from £400 to 600, including bills. Landlords and house-sharers are getting desperate because there's been such an exodus from the city, and new arrivals haven't come in their regular numbers.0
