My mother, who is now in care, was diagnosed with dementia several years ago but was paying her council tax up until she went into care in 2018. Can I claim back a refund for those years she had dementia, living alone with carers visiting. If so, how do i go about it please?

How much council tax was she paying? Full rate? Did the council know she was living alone? Why do you feel a refund is due? More details needed.0

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
