I love medjoul dates for a treat but for chopping onto  DH's muesli I'm happy with Home Bargains pitted dates. IIRC they're 89p for a 500g bag.

Medjoul have health giving properties- don't ask me what!- which ordinary ones lack
But if you are going to buy them don't pay top price! (That's why I posted ;))

I think I might try these, Katie, on my trip to Aldi today (fingers crossed I get some MB-alike handwash too).
We were watching Micheal Palin Sahara and he showed a clip of those dates that my Grandma always used to buy at Christmas (circa early 1960s), with the plastic fork that was always sticky.

    Hi Katie
    I've bought the dates.
    Damn difficult to find though.
I tried the flour aisle - that had sultanas, raisins etc, but no Medjoul dates.
Opposite was nuts and seeds and dried apricots, but no Medjoul dates.
I asked an assistant who pointed me to the flour aisle :) - er no - but I said they might be Christmas stock.
She then said to try the herbs and spices section.
    What?
But there they were, tucked alongside the jars of basil and fresh herbs.
They certainly look different from the ones we tried (and disliked) as kids.
    Thanks

Funny, they were in the baking section in 'my' store.
Now you can stuff them and pretend they came from Lakeland- as below (no longer available ! what all bought at that price?)
    • Filled with pistachio nuts
    • Stuffed with dried fruit
    • Rolled in milk chocolate and passion fruit granules
    • Suitable for vegetarians
    • Pack of 6

Aldi had reduced their price- maybe to compete with Lidl?
    Just a thought

I was in Aldi today. Strangely, in my store the medjoul dates  were in the  fresh fruit and veg section,  in the racks above the potatoes. So that's 3 locations we've found so far!🤣

Maybe we can start a 'spot the medjouls' competition. :)

TBH, my first thought was the cooking aisle.
I can understand the logic of fresh fruit and veg.
But dried and fresh herbs and spices...?

Before I met my wife, my family always had Medjool dates at Christmas. That was before I was introduced to these lovely things. They are soft and unctious, far cheaper. The link here says "out of stock" but they can be found in many Asian/international shops.
