Fixed term contract - offer to extend

Good afternoon,
After being made redundant in July I finally got a job on a 4 week fixed contract which I gladly accepted. They have now decided to extend this until March next year but are only offering as a band 2 (I got employed on band 3). It’ll be exactly the same job, no change to hours etc.

Unsure as to where I stand on original band 3 contract vs extension on band 2.
Any advice would be great.
Thank you 😊

Have you asked them why the pay band has changed? What band are the other people doing the role on?0

That's certainly the question I would be asking too. It's possible they had authorisation for higher pay because it was only a 4 week contract but can't get the same for a longer period.

Thanks for you replies.Everyone employed before us is on a band 2. They said they have reviewed the job role and rebanded accordingly.0

At present almost any job is better than none. Disappointing though it is for the job, and presumably the pay, to be downgraded it is at least and income and will look better on a CV than a gap.

If their current staff are on a 2 theyre not gonna give a longer term temp a 3.scotslass33 said:Thanks for you replies.Everyone employed before us is on a band 2. They said they have reviewed the job role and rebanded accordingly.0 -
What is the actual difference in pay between bands?
Do the bands overlap, so your pay could actually be the same?
Also, a short contract can sometimes attract a premium to compensate for the uncertainty. You now have the relative certainty of 5 months0
