Speak with a good broker to see what your options are. If you don't know anyone who has purchased recently, there's a few brokers who post on MSE; you can message them, they cannot approach you first.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

I wouldnt class you as an 'older person' for mortgage purposes. You will be able to get a mortgage with all the lenders based on your current age. How long a term they offer is another question and how they treat lending in to retirement is something else to consider if you want to take a mortgage past state retirement age.
There are lenders around that dont have any upper age limit on the mortgage so should be options out there for you. Find a broker and go through a full factfind to get a recommendation0
