Lawns.......help please.........

I left my lawn to 'meadow' for 2 years.  Long story.

This summer spent time raking the grasses so they were standing and then I strimmed them.  I now have the most beautiful lush green lawn.  Am not sure how that happened but the rest seems to have done it a lot of good.  Very few tiny patches and such a deep green.  Makes me happy every time I look at it.

My question is this ...............it's wet but it needs a cut.  When is it safe to do this without tearing it ?  Does the ground have to be really dry ?  Do I leave it alone in the winter ?

As you can tell I have no experience when it comes to lawns.  At present am just a proud caretaker..........   :)
