Original proof of ID - nervous to send

Hey all
I am going through the documents gathering stage with Accord and going through L&C. They have requested I send to them original copies of my ID and 2 x Proof of address.
Due to bills now being digital it means my only 2 proof of address is my driving license and a council tax bill which leaves my passport as ID.

I feel very nervous about sending all of my ID in the post to L&C and I am worried that it will get lost.
Am I being overly cautious? Does  anyone have a similar experience.

Thanks

Ask them if they will accept certified copies.  You can get those done at the Post Office.

  • Thanks ill ask. I would still need to send it in the post which is fine for me its just the fact that I dont want all my ID to get lost. Ill ask if they accept certified copies.

If they ask for originals and haven't mentioned certified copies, that's probably because they want originals. I've worked places where we do that and I can't remember anything ever going missing, either on the way to or from us. Not the end of the world if you need to get replacements, unless eg you're just about to go on a foreign trip, which I presume you're not.

Perhaps reduce the risk by sending them separately?

We try to take a view on these things but obviously L&C are much bigger than us.

We can electronically certify scanned copies of ID, but we only do that on certain types of cases.

Talk to them about your concerns, you wont be the first. They will tell you what alternatives they have.
You will also need to send your ID to your solicitor, so maybe they can certify for you? If you and the lender trust your solicitor, no reason why the broker shouldnt.

We are currently using L&C and they had us upload our own scans of our ID docs via their secure portal - is that not an option for you?

They would probably accept solicitor certified copies, if not those done by the post office.  I think I paid a local solicitor a fiver per document recently for them to copy, stamp and sign every page of a power of attorney.
  • Hey all! Thanks for the input. I called this morning and apparently the lender wants the originals from me and wouldn't accept certified copies. It is wierd that they only wanted mine and not my partners.
The L&C staff explained how they always send back next day after receiving via recorded delivery.
I sent via tracked next day special delivery today so hopefully it will all be alright.
I dont need the documents as I'm not going away or anything - just have to make sure I don't buy any booze until I get them back haha.
    Thanks again!
