Increase term on remortgage application

Does anyone know if you can simply increase the term of the mortgage when you remortgage to either your current provider or to a new provider? I mean with a full remortgage application rather than just a rate switch. All the forms I've seen online only seem to ask what your existing mortgage term *is* rather than what you want it to be, whereas the mortgage amount always caters for adding more.
P.s. In MSE spirit my intention is to overpay to keep the term the same as it is anyway, but to allow flexibility should I need to easily reduce outgoings in future in this current climate.

You can alter the term with a new lender or existing lender but it would probably be subject to underwriting in both cases.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Im not sure, I dont see the systems you would see as brokers have their own versions but ours would not normally ask about the term of the existing mortgage from memory.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
